Multidisciplinary MAKER of ~things~

b. 1997
Completed a Bachelor of Design (Hons)

Marisa Suen is a multidisciplinary maker of ~things~ often exploring body, object and space. She mainly uses the medium of textiles to blur the spatial boundaries between body and object. The process for the maker, wearer and viewer through interaction and movement are a mutating experience. She is a sucker for experimentation and trying techniques and materials not for their intended purpose in a totally peculiar context. Believer in no fine line between art and design, they go hand-in-hand to create pieces conceptually enriched and over-the-top dramatic.

Suen has graduated with a Bachelor of Design (Hons) from UNSW Art & Design in 2019. Her graduating work was selected by the Australian Design Centre for “Designing Bright Futures” show. She has received a “highly commended” for two consecutive years for the Kudos Emerging Artist and Designer Award. She has been featured in publications such as Schön Magazine and The Uncast. She has also had various artist talks at the Australian Design Centre, on FBi Radio, Firstdraft gallery and with Ascham School.

On top of her art interests and endeavours, she has professional fashion and design industry experience from various renowned companies, has worked with a few luxury brands and collaborated with other creatives on various projects as well as directing/styling many of her own projects.
